We're always excited to get a new machine and this new SCM Surface Planer was no exception. What was most remarkable about this delivery is Stephen Barr, our table frame specialist, happened to drop into conversation that he's been working with our old Surface Planer continuously since 1975! Stephen started working at A. B. Rose in Thirsk when he was 16 years old and this Surface Planer (and the Thicknesser you can just see behind it) were in use then. Both machines moved with Stephen to Thirsk Furniture (as we used to be called) in 1994. Both the machines and Stephen are still going strong but the time had come for a new larger Surface Planer which will help us joint larger table tops more easily and more safely.
